Prepware

You’ll need some basic prepware, as well. Here are my essentials.

  • Stainless Steel Bowls
  • This is my number one piece of prepware— something I consider an absolute essential. These are lightweight, stackable, easy to clean, and great for both prep and mise en place.

    Brand I Recommend: Homearray

  • Measuring Cups + Spoons
  • I keep literally one measuring cup in my kitchen, and it’s a pyrex. I use it for measuring both liquids and flours, but you could also get some proper measuring cups.

I personally never use measuring spoons. I find them annoying to clean and totally unnecessary— I eyeball every time a recipe calls for a teaspoon or tablespoon. If you don’t yet feel comfortable doing that, you can buy a set of measuring spoons too.

Or get a Gestura spoon (recommended in the utensils section) and kill two birds with one stone.

Brands I Recommend: Pyrex, Rena Chris

  • Fine Mesh Strainer
  • Comes in hand for everything from making pasta to blanching vegetables to making sauces.

    Brand I Recommend: OXO

  • Deli Containers
  • Great for mise en place and storage.

    Brand I Recommend: DuraHome

  • Bench Scraper
  • Great for baking, but even more useful for moving ingredients around in your prep area.

    Brand I Recommend: OXO
